I' V: \ND FRIDAYS Utilities Commission Okays Improved Plione Service Plans for This Area Carolina Asks Higher Kates Carolina Telephone and Tele giaph company has joined South ern Bel! in a plea for higher rates. Southern Bell last week applied fur a $'<>.700,000 increase, claiming the additional levcnue is needed to meet rising costs, finance ex pansion and to realize a 7 25 per cent return on its investment Approximately a year ago. South ern Bell applied for a general in crease totaling $2,667,000.
